The Scriptures speak a great deal about our need for spiritual authority (e.g. Hebrews 13:7, 13:17, 1 Thessalonians 5:10-12). Unlike our culture that views authority with the limiting of our “freedom”, the New Testament sees it as a primary means for our freedom.
The New Testament writings of Paul considered a believer’s incorporation into a local church community as indispensable to spiritual maturing and discipleship. In fact, removing a person from “membership” in a local church family was Paul’s ultimate means of church discipline.
Moreover, God has created us in such a way that we need the guidance and stability that only a larger community and the spiritual authority of leadership within a local church can provide.
Being part of a family and community will help you to remain faithful when bad weather, fatigue and disappointments come your way. The issue of stability rather than jumping from family to family is a critical discipleship issue.
Anyone who is considering New Life Fellowship as their church and has been attending for at least 3 months.
Also, if you are considering any service and/or leadership role then membership is for you!
College, graduate students and young people 18 years and older are encouraged to become members – even if you are only in NYC for 1-4 years.
During this time, you will learn about New Life Fellowship, including the history, vision, mission and values. This will be a time of getting to know New Life and what it means to be a member. Light food and drink will be provided.
After the Class, those who choose to take the next step to apply for membership will meet with one of the leaders of the church. This is a time for us to personally walk through the membership process with you and get to know you. This is also a time to answer any questions you may have, to pray with you, and to provide guidance and advice for you through this process and your spiritual journey.
The next Membership Cycle will be Sunday May 20th 2012 at 1:30pm.
